Measurable Progress
If you have a big goal, you need measurable progress. You need weekly goals, monthly goals, and quarterly goals that all add up to achieving that big goal. It’s like going across the country. You need a map. You’re going to stop at certain places along the way. Where are you going to eat? Where are you going to stay overnight? Where are you going to visit as you map your way to your destination? That’s how you can focus your mind just on short-term goals. It's not so ominous. It's not so big. It's not so intimidating. If all you have to worry about is what you need to get done today, if all you have to worry about is what you need to get done tomorrow and just keep repeating that process, you will reach your destination before you know it. Write down what it is that you want. What's the big goal? Let's back up to where you are right now and then let's set out those short-term goals.
