If there is one demon we’d all like off of our backs, it’s the demon of procrastination. We’d all like victory over that dark habit of putting something off to the last minute and finally get to the place of actually doing something on time. In fact, at this moment, how many items can you think of that you’re putting off? It’s okay. I have a few of them myself.

Everyone battles with procrastination. Everyone has an area of their life where they’ve chosen to push away endless opportunities to get something done. Oftentimes, that task needing completion is not even difficult or time-consuming, yet it still gets put to the back burner. Why do we do this?

Avoiding the Perceived Pain of Doing It Now

I’m going to suggest one reason why you and I procrastinate. It may sound strange at first reading, but if you consider the way your mind works, then you may find that this is the primary reason why you keep putting things off.

Believe it or not, procrastination is your way of getting something done. It’s your way of completing something without immediately experiencing the perceived pain of doing it now.

You avoid completing a task when it should be done because you believe it will be painful to do so. Not painful as in an actual physical pain, but painful in the sense that it would be unpleasant. But how is this your way of getting something done?

This is what I’m covering this week in my Life Domination Online Coaching Program in my 5-message series Procrastination: How to Put an End to Putting Things Off. Watch Episode 1 below:
