There is but one force that paralyzes people, and it is fear: fear of failure, fear of success, fear of the future, fear of people. And what is fear? Fear is an emotion caused by belief—a belief that by doing something, we’ll experience some form of pain.

I hope you caught that: fear is an emotion caused by a belief. In other words, fear is not actual pain as in a broken bone, burned skin, or pulled muscle. Fear is emotional pain, but it’s an emotional pain that we create by our beliefs about ourselves and the future.

Therefore, fear is the most powerful—yet powerless—force I’ve ever witnessed, and it’s the primary culprit behind humanity’s unrealized potential.

You’re Afraid of What You Believe

Those that are afraid to fail never launch out on their dreams because of the belief that the pain of not succeeding will be unbearable. Those that are fearful of success never launch out because they believe the responsibilities that come with success will be too painful for them to manage. They think, “If I succeed, how am I going to handle it? I’ve never been able to manage my past, so how can I manage my future?”

If you’re afraid to speak in front of people, it’s because you believe that you’ll be laughed at, scorned, or dismissed as a moron. If you’re afraid of rejection, it’s because you believe that if someone turns away from you, it’s an indication of your personal worth.

Fear is emotional pain, but it’s created by our assumption about the future or our assumption about a given situation. Fear is created by beliefs, therefore one needs only to change their beliefs in order to eradicate their fears.

Even If You’re Grown, You’re Still Afraid of the Dark

Fear is rooted in the unknown. That’s why you’re more fearful in the dark. You can’t see anything, so you don’t know what’s out there. Were there to be light, the very same spot that brought you fear in the dark would be no trouble in the light.

When you were a child, you feared things like the dark, because a child does not fear failure, success, or rejection—at least not until a psycho parent instills that in them. However, fear of failure, success, or rejection are really just grown up versions of a child’s fear of the dark—they are assumptions about what lurks ahead of you.

And when a parent wants to reassure their child that there’s nothing to fear in the bedroom, they simply turn on the light and the darkness is dispelled. The child can now see everything, and what was assumed to be a monster was just an odd pile of stuffed animals.

The Knowledge of “Unquestionable Principles”

Do you want to get over your fears? Then turn on the light. What is light? Light is truth, knowledge, or principle, and it is light that dispels the darkness of fear. The more you know—and believe what you know—the more you’re filled with courage and drained of fear.

This is an important fact about dealing with fear: it must be drained because you cannot dispel long-held fears all at once. The fear didn’t get there overnight, and it certainly won’t be eradicated overnight. You drain fear through accumulated knowledge but it’s a specific kind of knowledge—it’s a knowledge of unquestionable principles.

In the next two articles, I’ll break down what I mean by unquestionable principles, but I’ll also reveal what I consider to be the crucible moment of victory over fear. You won’t want to miss this. Please do me a solid and share this with someone today. Let’s drain fear of its power and get people acting courageously in a world that is set against them. Metal up!

This article probably just spared me a nervous breakdown. Thanks C.J.

    • I’m very glad to hear that! 😉

    • Caz

Thanks so much C.J., this is exactly what I needed to read today as I have a job interview for a job I have never done before. I am happy to learn the new skills and make new friends in the new job, but I was a bit scared of the idea of it all. Also, slightly scared of rejection. I guess I am comfy in the job I have now, so, if I don’t get the new job, I’ll have the comfy one to return to.

    • It’s great that you’re stepping out, Caz. Very proud of you!
