In my life, nothing has spelled more significant change than when fatalism began to die and determination came to life. In your own life, I can’t imagine anything greater dying in you. If you can lose the idea of fate, and embrace the reality that you have the ability to shape your future, a sense of empowerment will overtake you as if you were swallowed by an ocean wave. Steve Jobs knew this…
Most people have two appetites: they either hunger for something better, or their desires lead to destruction. And though they claim to have a hatred for their self-destructive behavior, they habitually line their life paths with land mines waiting to destroy their progress.
How do you develop patience? By staying aware that you’ll always be tested. You master yourself by mastering the moment, because life is nothing more than a succession of moments. The better you master the moment, the better you’ll master your life.
I don’t speak of destiny, but I will talk a great deal about destination. There’s a huge difference. A destination is simply a place that YOU’VE decided to go, and that’s the point. YOU make the choice about what your future will look like, and YOU decide how far you will go with your gifts, talents, abilities, and resources.
True, lasting success is not luck. It’s not the result of you just swinging in hopes of hitting something. Achievement in any area of life or business comes by consistently following the strict principles that govern success in those areas. To do that requires regular wise judgments and the discipline to stay on mission. You have a designated course, or path, and the challenge is to remain on it.
Motivation is not difficult, because you’re already motivated to do what you do whether it’s beneficial to you or not. Even the most lazy person is motivated in their laziness. Even the greatest procrastinator is consistent when it comes to avoiding the tasks they keep putting off. Either way, we do what we do for a reason, and the strength of that reason determines the strength of our motive.

Happy thoughts don’t create the kind of warriors we see in stories like Rocky, Rudy, Braveheart, or 300. Happy thoughts don’t inspire sacrifice, or move the wounded warrior to disregard his pain in order to win the day. For that, you need something higher. Something greater than yourself. Learn how.
Self-discipline is when you force yourself to do something you otherwise wouldn’t want to do. If you don’t have that force to exert on yourself, then you have to create it. Momentum is a principle you can use because momentum creates impetus and impetus is the force that makes something happen.
There’s one thing robbing you of your future, and it’s your past. It’s the only thing—in terms of you—that can rob you of your future. Even if it was someone else that caused you pain, or put you down, it’s still your hanging on to what happened, or what they said, that keeps you from living the life your heart desires. Discover how you can truly put your past behind you and create the future you’ve always wanted.
