The pain of the past is a destroyer of futures because we become so occupied with it that we have little energy, or focus, for achieving the things we want. We end up holding ourselves back, and it takes only a little resistance from life to keep us where we are.
We’re also in an age of therapy where we believe the best way to get over our past is to actually focus on it. We want to get to the root of things and try to answer questions like why and how?
I’m not saying we should avoid such therapy, nor am I suggesting that a qualified therapist or counselor would ever want to see you held back by your past. It’s more what we do to ourselves.
I believe that the best way to get over your past is to create a future that looks like “payback” for the past. We should build the life we would have if nothing wrong had ever happened to us.
