Welcome to the first episode of the Keep It In the Family Podcast featuring me (C. J.) and two of my kids, Joe and Christina. There’s an older one, Aaron, who lives out of state.
The purpose of this podcast is to share with you what I enjoy everyday with my family—great discussions about everything!
When I say “kids,” I mean that in an affectionate way, because Joe is 28 years-old and Christina is 19 years-old. Both are intelligent and insightful, and they both are actively pursuing their callings in life. This is being aided by three things:
1. The lifelong support of their father.
2. The investment of family resources to their chosen path.
3. The family philosophy they were taught.
Since my kids were young, I’ve both supported all their activities and pursuits and devoted all family resources to financing their respective dreams and goals. All this was within a context of an overall family philosophy that I refer to as “the trailer park aristocracy.”
I don’t mean to suggest we live in a trailer park. It’s just a humorous way to contrast the suburban family life as set over against the families of the top 1% who do not operate the same way that most of us do. Because of their wealth, name, and legacies, they have a long-term approach to family life—an approach that seeks to preserve their wealth, capital, and name over multiple generations.
We’re doing the same thing only it’s on a smaller scale. In addition, we’re more focused on other values besides wealth as more important. We have more idealistic goals—we want to make the world a better place.
On this podcast, we’ll discuss everything from life, work, self-improvement, calling, goals, business, entertainment, media, culture, history, philosophy, politics and more. I think you’ll find it interesting, enlightening, and informative.
