The root of all inferiority is a false form of measuring value. For example, if you’re an aspiring musician, it’s healthy to compare your skill level to that of someone who’s better, but it’s unhealthy to measure your own worth by comparing your looks to that of someone else. There’s always someone prettier or more handsome. There’s always someone richer, or more popular, or whatever, and if you’re determining your worth based upon those values, you’ll always be inferior.
Consider this: if you grew up on a remote island with no one else around, would you ever struggle with an inferiority complex? No, you wouldn’t, because there would be no one else to compare yourself with. Therefore, we have to live as if others don’t exist, and that means your only concern is to be better than you—not someone else.
