Blame Game: Recognizing that YOU are Your Problem and Solution

If you believe your problems are the result of something outside of you—such as family, economy, government, God, job situation, band, etc.—then you are less likely to work on yourself. If you believe your race, gender, or beliefs are the reason you’re not achieving your goals, then you won’t empower that part of you that truly creates change.

It’s the people who complain the most that place blame on something other than themselves. This is the real “blame game,” and if you’re playing it, it’s robbing you of the kick ass future you could experience if you’d realize that the only real roadblock is you.

YOU are the Circumstance that Needs Changing

If you hate your circumstances, then maybe you’re the first circumstance that needs to change. If you don’t like the way your life is going, then understand that the actions you take, and the decisions you make, are what make the difference in transforming your life. If you keep placing blame elsewhere, you’re screwed.

In other words, if you understand the problem is YOU, then we can change you. We can’t change the government, the economy, or your boyfriend. We can’t change your skin color, gender, or your family. Even if we could change any of those things, it wouldn’t make a difference so long as you remain as you are. It’s like a lazy, wasteful man who wins the lottery usually ends up right back in debt. He didn’t need more money. He needed a personal transformation.

Real Empowerment Comes When You Don’t Feel Powerless

This is why I often tell people that it can sometimes be healthy to “feel down about yourself,” because at least you understand that YOU are the circumstance that needs changing. This is good news because if you know the problem lies with you, then so does the solution. Think about it. Lying within you at this moment IS your solution!

Of course, you don’t want to take this too far and condemn yourself. That won’t help either. You only want to recognize that it’s your present way of believing, thinking, and acting that have created the circumstances you don’t like, and it’s in changing your beliefs, thoughts, and actions that will create your life transformation. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Recognize that YOU are the circumstance that needs changing and get pissed off about it.
  2. Use the fuel of healthy anger to drive you to take action to change your life.
  3. Begin today to absorb the information you’ll need to transform those areas you’re looking to change.
  4. Decide that from here on out nothing is more important than changing you.
  5. If you get off course, don’t condemn yourself. Just get back to the daily grind as if you never left. Guilt and condemnation will destroy you.
  6. Realize that every little change you make will have a greater impact on you if you keep it up.

Real empowerment comes when you don’t feel powerless, and if you’re blaming something other than yourself, you’ll always feel weak and unable. The more you realize that you are both your problem and your solution, then the greater sense of strength and responsibility you’ll experience. It’s all about you. Metal up!

By the way, the supplied image was a painting inspired by a Spanish painter and translates to “the sleep of reason produces monsters.” Your words always bring this image to mind; it illustrates to me that that inaction and lack of focus will be our undoing, sentiments Metal Motivation has long echoed.
